MASTERswitch®  “Flicker Free 2”

“Flicker Free” is a truly remarkable, powerful little product that will give

constant lighting on AC or DC layouts and banish flickering or lighting problems forever!

Easily installed in models of any scale or gauge. Safe to use on track power at any input voltage up to 20 volts, on any form of layout control, AC, DC or DCC!

This versatile little device is small enough to fit into even N scale coaches, yet it has massive storage power… it will even keep the lights on in your coaches on for more than TEN minutes on an AC or DC layout while the train stops at a station!

If it can’t be hidden, simply paint it matt black to render it almost invisible inside in an N scale open coach… but it is of course simple to hide it completely in a brake van in any scale... or a coach’s lavatory area. baggage compartment etc. in any scale.

 

Installation of “Flicker Free” is VERY simple

Just add it in between the pickups and your coach, brake van, caboose or any other rolling stock lights.

Just 2 input and 2 output wires to connect & you’re done! The input doesn’t care which way round you wire it & the output is marked with (+) & (-) for LED polarity.  We’ve provided “Flicker Free” with an output voltage suitable for directly driving LEDs with no added resistor.

However its our experience that while you should use NO resistor for red/yellow you should use a series resistor with white as it will give a much more realistic light level. (Try without if you like - we prefer 1k ohms with white so we provide them for you). Experiment to get the best result!

The LEDs should be connected in parallel. We settled on five for a full compartment coach, but feel free to add more or less. Note: Strangely… the more you add, the better the Flicker free seems to work!

 

“Flicker Free” is available as follows:

 

FF Single: 1 x Flicker Free, 6 x OO pickup springs

 

 

FF-6 6 pack: 6x Flicker Free, 10 x light strips, 12 x OO/HO axle mounted pickup springs, 30x G/white LED, 3x Red, 33x 1,000 ohm / 1k resistors & instructions

 

BASIC Specifications:

Input: AC, DC or DCC, 9~20 volts.

Storage: Super Capacitor, 200,000 microfarads.

Output: 4.7 volts, current limited & protected (Safe for direct LED connection)

TIP 1:

The super-capacitor value is a huge 200,000 microfarads - give it a couple of minutes to fully charge but once charged, it can then keep 6 white LEDS glowing for ten minutes or more!

 

TIP 2:

The long lead is always the positive connection on standard LEDs
